Golf Tournament Reinvented for 2020!

Draw August 10 at 3 pm - NOVA Office

We have been forced to cancel this year’s golf tournament scheduled for August 10th, replacing it with a donation drive/fundraiser. Instead of paying a $500 golfer’s fee, we are asking for the same amount as a donation for which you will receive a full tax receipt and be entered in a draw for great prizes such as WestJet tickets, Laurentian getaways, golf foursomes, a BBQ, art work and much more. CLICK HERE for more information and make a donation. We are counting on you to be passionate about supporting us in these challenging and uncertain times. We look forward to golfing with you in 2021!

Stay Safe and Healthy!

March 27, 2020

In relation to the preventive measures recommended by the Government of Québec and out of our concern for everyone’s well-being, we wish to reassure our clients and their families, our volunteers and the community at large of our temporary preventive measures to reduce the impact and the risk of spread of COVID19.  Click here to learn more about the measures taken within our programs and our services.  We thank you for your understanding and collaboration.

Thank you local artists!

May 1st, 2020

During the month of April three outstanding local artists (also members of the LAA) have successfully sold art for the benefit of NOVA.  Susanne Strater posted a different painting or paper cutting each day during her “Instagram April Art Sale” and she donate 50% of their sales to us.  Fortunately, this has helped her find new buyers and followers @susannestrater. On the other hand, Valerie Harper donated the total sale of her “Simply Silent” painting. You can follow her on her Facebook page or @valerieharperart.  As for Norma Bradley-Walker, she launched her new collection of small watercolour paintings called “The Meaning of Flowers” and will donate 1/3 of the sales to NOVA. This generous offer is ongoing until the collection is sold out so please check it out on Instagram @normabradleywalker or her website.  Together they have raised over $2,400 to help vulnerable people in our community. We are profoundly thankful for their generosity and for brightening our days with the beauty of their work.

Montreal Canadiens Alumni Benefit Hockey Game a Huge Success

January 31, 2020

Take superstar Canadiens players from the past. Pack a local arena with appreciative fans and you have the makings of a great event! And NOVA West Island was the beneficiary of the evening. Players like Guy Carbonneau, Patrice Brisebois, Stephane Richer, Sergio Momesso and Gaston Gingras played a team of NOVA All-Stars at the Bob-Birnie Arena in Pointe-Claire with coaching by Chris Nilan and Rick Green. With low ticket prices ($10), a silent auction and a raffle, the event was a huge success netting over $22,000 for NOVA West Island. We'd like to thank everyone who worked with us to organize this great event. We'd also like to thank our sponsors, volunteers and especially the Canadiens Alumni!

5th Edition of NOVA Tree of Life

December 08, 2019

The weather was cold but that didn't stop the crowd of 200 people gathered in front of NOVA West Island's office for the 5th edition of the NOVA Tree of Life Ceremony. It involves buying a white light "in memory of" or a blue light "in honour of" a loved one. The lights are then placed on a Christmas tree. The tree was illuminated in tandem with the village's lights. Then followed a minute of silence. The crowd enjoyed singing Christmas carols played by the musical group; Roxfield Point with the special edition of Beaconsfield High School's Crescendo Choir. Medha Srinivasan; a NOVA Carousel Camp volunteer once again offered a poignant version of "Hallellujah."  A draw was held for gift baskets graciously donated by local businesses and individuals followed by delicious chili, soup and hot chocolate. The event raised over $2,100. A big thank you to everyone!

Yoga for NOVA

November 02, 2019

Our 11th edition of YOGA for NOVA was a true success thanks to the generosity of 24 participants, donors and partners. The $765 proceeds will help us continue to offer our much needed healthcare in the community. In addition, all yogis received a hand-made bracelet created in Montreal courtesy of OM Wellness located in the Village of Pointe-Claire. We thank everyone including the city of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Marché Richelieu Richard & fils, Ste. Anne Fleuriste, Nathalie Beaux, Volunteer West Island and of course Cynthia Maher, certified yoga teacher for her time, his energy and his magic. NAMASTE!

June 07, 2019

Annual General Meeting 2019

June 03, 2019

We recently held our Annual General Meeting outlining the accomplishments of the past year. We contributed to the welfare of more than 753 vulnerable individuals who received services through one or more of our programs. Thanks to the continued financial support of individuals, foundations, corporations, municipalities, community groups and organizations as well as new, annual and third party fundraisers, NOVA West Island continues to bridge gaps in the public health care system by offering a variety of programs and services at low or no cost. The Thrift Shops’ substantial contribution to our organization as well as the Annual Golf Tournament, Art Show, Yoga, Tree of Life, and Breakfast are examples of such fundraisers. We also count on dedicated staff and long-time volunteers like Anne Myles who has been with our Board since 2006! She has decided to step down and was made an Honorary Life Member of Nova West Island. Thank you Anne!

May 24, 2019

The Lakeshore Association of Artists (LAA) held another very successful Spring Exhibition at the end of April. With over 50 artists taking part, the event raised almost $8,000! NOVA is the very grateful recipient of 1/3 of the sales of artwork as well as all proceeds of raffle tickets. We'd like to thank Charmian Gibson Silver and Suzanne Bélair for generously donating their paintings towards the raffle as well as the donor of the two beautiful quilts. We are so pleased to be a continuing partner of LAA and have the support of the community.

Thank you to our volunteers!

April 08, 2019

It was with great pride that NOVA West Island staff welcomed more than 50 volunteers to our annual recognition event last April 8th during this year’s Volunteer Week. The afternoon included a delicious snack, a vibrant game, door prizes and surprises while highlighting those who celebrated their 5 to 30 years of service to NOVA West Island’s clients. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts! NOVA West Island would not exist without the generosity, time and expertise of over 255 volunteers who help us respond to health needs in our community.
